Friend Makin' Mondays (On A Wednesday): Twenty Questions

Needless to say Monday was a bad day and I didn't feel right about posting something that seemed so trivial in light of current events. So thanks to a late night puppy ER trip, I'm at home and finding myself at home for the day and able to catch up. Now for this weeks topic:

If you've take part in FMM before then you know the routine. If you're new, simply take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at All The Weigh - encourage your readers to do the same and we can all connect.

Twenty Questions

1. Share something that you enjoy doing when you’re alone.
Painting my nails

2. What do you plan to eat next? Chicken fajitas

3. When did you first travel on a plane?  Where did you go? I can't recall how old I was but it was a quickie flight from San Antonio to Dallas - I think I was 12 or 13 maybe.

4. Do you currently have a crush on someone?  If so, share a few of the reasons why.  I wont call it a crush but I'm intrigued by someone - mostly because I like what I've found out and when I first met this person I didn't like them at all. Due to an age gap and not knowing individual situations, its unlikely to go anywhere. However, it has made me reconsider my whole "no dating" thing.

5. List one thing that disgusts you that probably wouldn’t bother someone else.  Mushrooms.

6. If you could buy a new car tomorrow (and money was no object) what would you buy? Bugatti Veyron - just like this. Anyone have an extra $1.5 mil laying around?

7. Who was the first person who broke your heart? Alf when he left Earth for Planet Melmac.

8. If you could spend the night with a celebrity tonight, who would it be? 50 Cent - he just looks like he can get down LOL

9. Are you a morning person or a night person? While I’m definitely a night person, I'm trying to change that (all attempts thus far have been unsuccessful).

10. What’s your favorite board game? Monopoly!

11. Can you play an instrument? If so, what do you play?  Does my CD player count?

12. What is the last thing you ate?  Breakfast taco with refried beans, eggs, cheese and Sriracha.

13. Do you wear a watch?  No, I don't like the feel of anything on my wrists.

14. Do you go to church? I used to in Texas but I haven't found a Church home in Chicago.

15. Do you ever wish on stars? Yes.

16.  Have you ever been on a motorcycle? Yes, sport and cruisers.

17. What is the last thing you purchased? An extension cord.

18. How big is your bed? Queen.

19. What size shoe do you wear? I used to wear a 9 but now Im between an 8 and 8.5. These awesome shoes are a 7.5 so Im still fluctuating from all the weight being gone (yay!).

20. What are you looking forward to most in the coming week?
Iron Man 3! 05.03.13

That wraps up this weeks questions. As always don't forget to link back up so we can all share!

Have a great rest of the week!

Friend Makin' Mondays: TV, Movies and Me

I've been down with the flu all week so I missed out on last weeks FMM. I just didn't have the strength or desire to sit in front of my computer for any length of time. Thank goodness for auto-post or the few recipes I put up wouldn't have gone out. Happy to report I'm feeling much better and ready to get this week started so I can get it finished and onto the weekend! Is it just me or does your job REALLY interfere with your life too? Note to self - buy a lotto ticket. Now onto this weeks topic:

If you've take part in FMM before then you know the routine. If you're new, simply take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at All The Weigh - encourage your readers to do the same and we can all connect.

TV, Movies and Me

1. If you could be a recurring star on a show that is currently on TV, which show would you choose?  Vampire Diaries! Two reasons, Damon and Klaus. In either order, or at the same time. And Elena needs her butt kicked. Plus I'd be a vampire and wouldn't have to go to work tomorrow. Perfect!

2. Name the movie that you are most embarrassed to admit that you love.  Twilight. I could watch it 100 times and never be bored. Ok maybe a little, but not by much.

3. Name one show that you’ve never seen and would love to watch.  I have no idea, I rarely watch TV, as in I turn it on maybe 4 times a month. Sad, I know. I've never seen the Tudors and I heard it was really good so we'll go with that.

4. Do you ever go to movies alone?  All the time. I actually prefer it, last time I went with someone they talked thru the whole movie. It doesn't help that I hate chick flicks so most of my friends aren't up to seeing all my action/horror/epic films.

5. If you could only watch one TV show for the next year, which show would you choose and why?  I have no idea. I only watch 3 shows: Vampire Diaries, Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy. I'm going to have to cross my fingers and hope this never happens because I cant choose from all of this awesomeness!

6. If you could star in one reality show, which one would it be and why?  I wouldn't. I just don't understand the concept of taking an hour out of my life to watch someone else's - and all the staged conflict that goes along with it.

7. If someone rented a billboard for you, what would it say?  Duh =)

8. Who is the most famous person with whom you have been in the same room? Not the most famous but definitely my favorite - the San Antonio Spurs! I love my boys! Playoffs, baby!!!!

9. If you were chosen to be a contestant on a TV game show, which show would you want to be on?  Family Fued

10. If there was a movie being made about you, which actor would you choose to play you? Angelina Jolie. I imagine she's as awesome as I am ;)

Well that wraps up this weeks topic. Don't forget to link back and have a great week!

Friend Makin' Mondays: Ten Questions

What a week! I celebrated my birthday (and 7 month Surgiversary) this past week and I had so much fun that I'm sorry to see it end. I'll make sure to post lots of pictures later in the week, but for now we will jump right into this weeks topic:

If you've take part in FMM before then you know the routine. If you're new, simply take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at All The Weigh - encourage your readers to do the same and we can all connect.

 Ten Questions

1. Describe the kind of home you would live in if money were no object.  An old English-style home with lots of history - nooks, crannies and secret passageways are a must!

2. Are you more conservative in your actions or more rebellious? Rebellious. If you tell me I can't do something I will show you I can...twice.

3. Would you go to Mars even if it meant you could never return to Earth?  Only if Mars didn't allow stupid people. Or the Slutdashians.

4. Name one song that makes you want to dance every time you hear it. Shake by the Ying Yang Twins & Pitbull - booty shaking at its finest!

5. Share one thing that you wish you could go back and do differently in your life.  I would have taken my health and weight more seriously when I was a size 16 instead of waiting until I was a size 26. Better late than never, right?

6. Share at least one accomplishment that people wouldn’t expect you to be proud of.  I've been celibate for 3 years now. I am proud of the discipline and reserve I've shown in a society that embraces and exploits non-committal sex.

7. Describe one delicious thing that you’ve eaten lately.  Lots of Southwest Breakfast Burritos, I'm finding I like them for snacks too! Great for protein and low-carb too.

8. If you had a theme song that would play every time you entered a room, which song would you choose?  Now I'm That B*tch by Livvi Franc

9. Had technology enhanced your life, or has it over complicated your life?  Both. I love my gadgets and without the technology I wouldn't be writing this post or connecting with so many great people. Downside to that is the 'anti-social' behaviors that tend to manifest, not to mention the time I spend playing Scramble With Friends. My iPhone and iPad are never more than 3 feet from me at all times - I need therapy! LOL

10. If you could get paid to do any job, which job would you choose?  A professional shopper. I'd search far and wide for the best clearance selections! Target, anyone?

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments. Have a great week!!

Staycation 2013 {photo heavy}

Today is officially the last day of Staycation 2013. It wasn't nearly long enough but it was nice to not have to do anything for 9 days. It was pretty uneventful but I had a few NSV's so I thought I'd share.

____________

I probably did the most on Monday (03/04) as it was Chicago's 176th birthday and to celebrate they were giving free admission to the Chicago History Museum so I took full advantage of my time in the city. I viewed every section they had open and spent quite a bit of time in the Shalom Exhibit; if you're in the Chicago area this is a great (and inexpensive) day trip! NSV #1: being able to walk/stand all day with no pain or discomfort in back/feet!

This is the souvenir I picked out, does this REALLY surprise anyone?

____________

I spent the majority of Tuesday around the house doing some deep spring cleaning and organizing. I did discover my new favorite snack! Okra chips!

____________

Wednesday I took my pup, Pugsly, to the vet so he could get a shot for his arthritis.

__________

Thursday evening I went to a friend's album release party and had a TON of fun! This was the first time I've dressed up and gone out since surgery. NSV# 2: the dress (and no sleeves)!

NSV#3: being able to stand/dance in these shoes for 4 hours with no back pain!

NSV#4: not being afraid of group pictures anymore!

____________

Friday was a lazy, recoup day. Bella says hi.

____________

Saturday was a shopping day. I went to Nordstrom Rack to have a pair of pants altered and I picked up this awesome studded iPhone case. I found this Torani syrup at World Market and it's my favorite yet. I mix 2 tbsps. with my Pure Protein chocolate shake and add some instant coffee granules...woah!

My last stop was TJMaxx and I ran across a pair of NYMJ on clearance for $20! These things retail for $120 - and the best part? NSV#5....drumroll please.....

IM OFFICIALLY A SIZE 20!! Less than 6 months ago I was a 28 (tight). Not only do I look great, I feel great and I'm getting my health back. Nothing like seeing your hard work pay off =)

____________

That pretty much sums up Staycation 2013. I know Im missing an entry for last weekend and today but since I didn't do anything here is a picture of this weeks polish changes, Im partial to #3 myself.

____________

Until next time!

Pause, Rewind

I haven't felt like blogging. The thoughts, ideas and posts have been there but sitting down in front of the computer and writing has felt like a chore. Truth be told, I've been struggling to find a happy medium between work, home and all the other responsibilities I have. I took a week off of work just to chill out and still found myself stressing over all the things I "need" to do and started feeling anxious over everything that has been piling up (ie blog posts, meeting personal monthly goals). It was at that point I had to put my foot down and take a step back. So for now I'm not making any more monthly goals, I'm going back to the basics and making sure they're cemented before trying to add on anything else. If I feel like blogging I will blog, if not then I wont. I would much rather churn out a genuine post once a week then try and force 3 crappy ones out.

I just wanted to touch base with you guys and acknowledge that I know I'm behind on responding to emails, blog posts, and everything in between. I've gotten all of your lovely responses and words and for that I'm grateful and so very appreciative - I just needed a moment to pause, rewind before pressing play again.

Besos -

Friend Makin' Mondays: Persoal Quirks and Habits

Monday is here and a new work week begins - I don't know about you guys but I'm already counting down to Friday. I've got a long week ahead that's filled with work, stitches, and EGD's - I'll fill you all in later on those things. I will say my dermatologist is making a killing off me this month - hope she remembers my birthday.

So lets get to the fun stuff shall we?

If you've take part in FMM before then you know the routine. If you're new, simply take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at All The Weigh - encourage your readers to do the same and we can all connect!

Personal Quirks and Habits

1. Share one unique character trait that sets you apart from your friends. I'm pretty blunt and don't cut corners when sharing my thoughts and opinions.

2. List at least two pet peeves that always aggravate you. Laziness and uncleanliness (its the OCD!)

3. Is there a word or phrase that you say so regularly that people expect to hear it from you? However or you know what I'm saying/what I mean.

4. Are you a risk taker, or do you typically play it safe? I like to think of myself as a 'cautious thrillseeker' - I'll jump out of a plane but play it a little more cautious when it comes to everyday things - I'm an analyzer in that regard.

5. Describe your life as it was in high school. Are you the same person? Have you changed? High school was miserable - I've definitely changed!

6. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done that you’re glad you did? Packed up and moved to Chicago last year.

7. Do you ever talk to yourself? If so, share an example. All the time - "Shari - WTF are you doing - don't be a dumbass - get it together already"

8. Share something you did that unexpectedly helped shape your life. I had an accident at work about 10 years ago and it caused me to have back surgery & a permanent injury that will require lifelong care. It stopped my life as I knew it and made me reanalyze everything, my life turned around completely.

9. Do you follow a strict routine, or are you a free spirit? Are you somewhere in between? I'm in between if my OCD allows, if its in overdrive watch out!

10. Share something about yourself that you hope will inspire others. Would you believe I have a great story, one of perseverance and determination and a big insight as to why I am the way I am? Well I do but its kind of a long one so check back later and I'll update when Im not so tired and my eyes aren't closing as I type lol

Have a great week!

Thoughts

I'm mad. And angry. And pissed. At someone. At everyone. At no one.

I'm happy. And grateful. And glad. For everything. For nothing. For something.

I'm mad I moved to Chicago for what feels like nothing.

I'm glad I came - I had my surgery and changed my life.

I'm angry because I have no one here, no support system.

I'm pissed because I changed my life and the people who didn't got left behind and that left me alone.

I'm glad I've grown as a person.

I'm happy I don't take any sh** from anyone.

I'm happy I don't have to depend on anyone.

I wish I didn't have to always be so strong.

Why doesn't sh** get handed to me like other people?

I'm proud of my accomplishments.

I like that I'm good with make-up, hair and clothes.

I wish I didn't have bad thoughts about others.

I wish people didn't do dumb sh** in order for me to have bad thoughts about them in the first place.

I wish my friends were closer.

I wish I could hug my Dad.

I love looking in the mirror and seeing a healthy me.

I'm happy being single.

I love my pups.

I like making lists and plans and following things thru.

I'm excited about my upcoming Florida vacation.

I hate having frenemies.

Im working on everything, on me.

I love myself.

Im grateful.

Freeze Your Food Budget

I was recently asked how I grocery shop and make my food last so long. Me being the organizational freak that I am, I decided to share a few tips and tricks with you all so we can be organized together!Whether you are sleeved, single or just on a budget - these will work for you. There's nothing special or magical, just a girl with severe OCD who wanted to make cooking for one more convenient, a snap to track food and stretch my dollar further.

Now the first thing I do is search through all the ads and make a list of what I need and where its from. For me, making a list keeps me from buying a lot of unnecessary items. If it's a large list I usually take it to Wal-Mart since they price match and kill everything in one shot. Coupons, people! I cannot stress this enough! Also, becoming familiar with standard prices for items in your area will allow you to recognize a good sale. This time there wasn't anything on sale that I couldn't get at Aldi or Meijer for cheaper so off I went.

No matter what store I'm at I always check the clearance rack - especially for meat! You can often get dented cans for 1/2 price, it may not be pretty but you aren't eating the can. I hit the mother load at Meijer, the sausage was almost half price - that's 12 protein packed meals for $.58 each!! If you freeze the food before the expiration date you are ok

Now to get it all home and to store it, right? Don't go and buy a million freezer bags, you won't need a bunch this way. A while back Ziploc came out with a product called Perfect Portions, I cannot tell you how underrated these things are! They allow you to wrap individual serving sizes of food (and prevent freezer burn) that you can store inside a large Ziploc freezer bag. Go buy these.

I broke down each package and put 2 sausages in each bag, labeling the bag so I would know what flavor I'm pulling out. I did the same with the turkey bacon, putting 4 slices in each portion protector. Now here comes the OCD in me - I track my food and there is nothing more frustrating than trying to remember what Ive repackaged in order to track correctly.

So as you see, once placed in the large bag I cut off the UPC's, tape them to the bag and label each one. It takes an extra 3 minutes but makes my life SO much easier! I take it a step further for fresh meat by scaling my food into 4 ounce portions before freezing - as I did here with my Aldi Ground Chicken ($2.39 a pound!

I cant tell you how much money portioning my food has saved me. Nothing goes bad and I don't waste anything because I'm able to use only what I want. I spent $50.85 on food and by taking an extra half hour to portion it out I have enough food to last me over 40 meals! I wont have to buy any meat or vegetables for close to 3 weeks. That fits in with my Spending Diet budget nicely!

My freezer is full and happy!

What tips and tricks do you use to maximize shopping on a budget?

Happy shopping!

January Goals

So we're a week into 2013 and I've barely had time to breathe - let alone blog - so please excuse the tardiness of this post. I started a new position at work and while it's been great, its also been exhausting. I know it doesn't help that I was sick with the plague/sinus/allergies almost the entire month of December and my body took a beating trying to recoup while still trying to function. Let's recap December goals to see how I did:

-Didn't do well on the workouts due to the plague.
-I got my fluids in but they weren't all clear.
-Budget is done & coming in a later post.
-I averaged 2 blogs a week - so close enough.

All in all not too shabby but I need to tighten the reins now that I'm feeling better! So this is what January's goal look like:

Track food daily - this one is pretty easy for me as long as I'm prepared with my meals and not winging it. Im on MyFitnessPal as ShoeVixen - feel free to add me!

More water - I think this will be my biggest struggle (again). I rearranged my fridge so where only liquids are on the top shelf (most easily accessible) and I've prefilled several to-go water bottles that I can just grab and drink. Im thinking for me that will be key - I found myself reaching for water yesterday and drank a whole bottle.

Finish C25K - This I'm confident I will do, I'll speak more on this in a later post but I've teamed up with Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans for a C25K program.

No coffee after 7 - I need to clarify  - no caffeinated coffee after 7p. The goal here is getting to bed earlier so I can wake up earlier.

Vitamins - I'm horrible about taking vitamins; even though they're right by the fridge I always forget so I took several large index cards and wrote TAKE YOUR DAMN VITAMINS in permanent marker and placed all over the house lol

What tips and tricks do you use? What do you feel is your biggest hurdle for staying on track?

Have a great week!

2012 Wrap-Up!

2012 is definitely one for the books. I've had so many life-enhancing experiences this year - my head is still spinning. I'm hoping 2013 will slow down for me just a bit (as it should since I'm more settled) so I can focus on my plot to take over the world. It's going to be epic! Epic I tell you!

Twelve in 2012

1. What was your greatest personal accomplishment in 2012?  I like to think I did several cool things this year but moving to Chicago was by far the most awesome!

2. What’s the best thing your did for your health?  I had gastric sleeve surgery. It not only cured my diabetes but I've lost 65 pounds so far and I'm getting healthier by the day. I also haven't had any pop or carbonated beverages in 5 months - no alcohol either!

3. Share one thing that caused a significant change in your life this year.  I hate to sound repetitive but moving to Chicago, picking up and moving my entire life has given me the courage to do so much more!

4. List a few things that you experienced for the first time at some point over the last twelve months.
- I sailed on Lake Michigan (in a pirate ship!)
- This is my first apartment "underground"
- I did the Color Run
- I mailed out Christmas cards (I never had to before since I was local)

5. What was the coolest place you visited? Chicago of course ;)

6. If you could change one thing about the last year what would it be?  I would have curbed my extra spending slightly (OK a little more than slightly) - but I'll be starting the AndThenWeSaved program next year - super excited about that.

7. What is the best meal you ate this year? Giordano's stuffed pizza and Alfie's zucchini chips. Both of which are on my do-not-eat-or-it-will-turn-you-into-a-fat-ass-again list.

8. Tell us about a new friend you made.  All of my friends have been new this year, I cant point just one particular person out, they're all great!

9. What did you hope to accomplish this year that you did not? I wanted to travel some.

10. Share something you learned in 2012.  Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle.

11. Share an odd and unexpected thing that you experienced this year.  I can't say anything odd or unexpected happened to me this year. It's been pretty normal for once lol

12. How do you think 2013 will differ from 2012? It is going to be full of so much awesome. I'm going to be skinny. I'm going to be rich(er). I'm going to travel. I'm going to (continue to) be badass.

Now it's your turn! Don't forget to link up! Happy Monday everyone!

Christmas Questions

1. How will you celebrate the holidays this year? This year I'm going solo, all my family is back in Texas. I'm not sad though, its my first Chicago Christmas so there's lots of new traditions to be made.

2. What’s the weather currently like where you live? Its starting to get colder but as we've now hit a record 281 days without snow, I can say I'm far past ready for some white powder awesomeness!

3. Do you decorate your home for the holidays? If so, share a picture please!  I did a little as I left most of my decorations at my parents house in Texas. Here is my mini tree:

4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?  ELF! Best Christmas movie, EVER. A do have a soft spot for the old claymation classics and who can forget Emmitt Otter's Jug-Band Christmas? Love!

5. What is your favorite Christmas songs?  Carol of the Bells, Feliz Navidad, Last Christmas, Little Drummer Boy and Santa Baby top my list.

6. Do you have an advent calendar?  No, I had one every year as a child but I've grown out of them.

7. Do you prefer color lights or white lights?  I have white lights on my tree but I prefer colored lights on the outside of a home.

8. What is your favorite food to eat over the holidays?  That's hard to say, ever since the surgery I haven't been indulging (yay me!). It used to be pumpkin flavored anything, now I'd have to say its an XL coffee with Peppermint Mocha from Dunkin Donuts. I live dangerously, I know.

9. Do you display a live tree, or do you prefer fake trees? I'm a city dweller in an apartment, its nothing but fake for me!

10. What would you need to make your holiday perfect this year?  I'm alive, healthy, losing weight, employed, and have happy pups...I'd say its already perfect =)
